ITINERARY IN DETAIL
DAY 01: ARRIVAL IN HANOI
Arrival in Hanoi – transfer to your hotel. Orientation tour: The Hoan Kiem Lake, the Ngoc Son Pagoda, dedicated to the genius of Literature. Visit the Quan Thanh Pagoda, dedicated to the Tran Vu genius. Strolling in the old quarters of 36 corporations, the heart of the Old Hanoi. Visit of the temple of Literature. Dinner, back to your hotel.
DAYS 02: HANOI / HA LONG
Visit Hanoi before heading to Ha Long: exterior visit of the marble Mausoleum, the One Pillar pagoda. Ha Long was registered at the World Heritage by UNESCO since 1994. Cruising on a traditional junk and visit Ha Long Bay through the wonderful sceneries. Lunch with a variety of seafood. Dinner and overnight on board.
DAY 03: HA LONG / HANOI
Landing after lunch. Drive back to Hanoi. On the way, we visit the But Thap Pagoda. Water Puppet show in Hanoi, dinner in town and back to your hotel.
DAY 04: HANOI / SON LA
Heading to Son La, stage city to Dien Bien Phu. From the top of the pass, the little city of Mai Chau appears nicely: a green valley, welcoming houses on stilts, lunch at Mai Chau and further we drive thru the pass of Pha Din, a marking line between Heaven and Earth, says the legend. A winding road drives us between the edges of the mountain and the ravine, with a lot of bends. Overnight at the hotel.
DAY 05: SON LA / DIEN BIEN PHU
The road is winding thru the mountains and the high land. We can find many ethnic tribes (Thai, H’Mong)The old battlefield emerges on a wide valley of Muong Thanh. The valley of Dien Bien Phu is divided into different strategic positions, and some are placed on hills that wears the names of women: Elaine, Beatrice, Claudine – a little museum describes the famous battle, the old head quarters of general De Castries, and the medical infirmary Nowadays, Dien Bien Phu is a quite valley, mostly populated with ethnic minorities.
DAY 06: DIEN BIEN PHU / PHONG THO
Drive to Phong Tho. We can admire the magnificent and serene sceneries. Overnight in Phong Tho.
DAY 07: PHONG THO / SAPA
We continue to SAPA, residential small city, located at the altitude of 1600 meters. Sapa has kept all his wild and natural beauty, an ideal destination for those who like to make drives in open nature and who want to discover the customs and traditions of these mountain tribes.
DAY 08: SAPA / BAC HA / SAPA
Located at 80kms from Sapa, the BAC HA market is the biggest one of these hill regions. The market day (it must be a Sunday) is a weekly event, attended by ethnic groups, such as the flowery H’mongs. Ethnic people comes there to exchange their products brought on horse backs. You will surrounded and leaded in the multicolor crowd of people in traditional custom and specially by the beauty of the women, wearing dresses with bright colored embroideries and solid silver jewelries. Lunch at Bac Ha. We continue our visit to the surrounding region and drive back to Sapa.
DAY 09: SAPA / HANOI
Visit of the Ta Van and Lao Chai, then Ban Ho Village, traditional villages of the northern minorities. Lunch on the way, back to the town to visit the CatCat village. Transfer to Lao Cai to take the night train back to Hanoi.
DAY 10: HANOI / SAIGON
Arrival at Hanoi in early morning. Fly to Saigon. Arrival in Saigon, the pearl of the far East Orient and orientation tour: Ho chi Minh city or Saigon has numerous architectural works, worth of interest: The Central Post Office, colonial construction in 1886, the “Notre-Dame” Cathedral, with neo-roman inspiration, and red bricks imported from Marseille (France), the Reunification Palace, former residence of the general governor of Cochin China, the municipal theatre, the lively Ben Thanh Market, and the busy Chinese quarters with shop and stalls, selling all kind of goods.
DAY 11: SAIGON / CU CHI / SAIGON
At 35kms North West of Saigon, Cu Chi was a strategic place of the war-The first underground galleries were dug during the Indochina war. They include a large system of underground trenches, like a spider web. This reveals the genius, the determination and tenacity of the Vietnamese patriots, who have dug tons of earth with simple rudimentary means.
DAY 12: SAIGON / BEN TRE / SAIGON
Day excursion in the luxuriant environment of the Mekong Delta. Boat trip through the branches of the river, the canals, the typical villages, the orchards. Short drive with horse driven carts, tasting of local products, tropical fruits and tea with honey. Lunch and return to Saigon.
DAY 13: TRANSFER / AIRPORT
Free at leisure before departure.
