The Việt Nam National Administration of Tourism (VNAT) under the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism on Tuesday introduced the country’s new tourism slogan “Việt Nam-Timeless Charm”.
The previous slogan of “Việt Nam – The Hidden Charm” has been used since 2005. The new slogan, designed by painter Trần Hoài Đức, is featured with five-color flower bud representing a new period of the sector’s development. The main navy blue implicates sea and island tourism - one of the Southeast Asian country’s key tourism products while green representing bio-tourism, yellow speaking for cultural tourism, purple demonstrating discovery and adventurous tourism, and pink featuring dynanism and hospitality of Vietnamese people.

Vietnam ’s Xoan singing will be one of the 23 heritages to be put for recognition as a world intangible cultural heritage at the 6 th Session of the UNESCO Intergovernmetnal Committee for Safeguarding of Intangible Cultural Heritages to be held in Bali , Indonesia from Nov. 22-29.
The information was released by Cecile Duvelle, Chief of the Intangible Cultural Heritage Section of the UN Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation (UNESCO), at a press conference during the 36 th meeting of the UNESCO General Assembly in Paris on Nov. 8. Cecile Duvelle affirmed that Vietnam sees a great possibility for success as Xoan singing meets all the five compulsory criteria. Vietnam has been fully aware of the importance of preserving and promoting the country’s intangible cultural heritages, she said.

“Promote our Asian Pride! Jeju Island, Ha Long Bay!” That’s the joint slogan of two of the 28 Official Finalists in the New7Wonders of Nature campaign. It’s also the motto of an interactive, international platform that Korea’s Jeju Island and Vietnam’s Halong Bay have created to energize voters in both countries and around the world in the run up to 11 November, when the names of the seven winners will be announced.
With its English, Korean and Vietnamese interfaces, the tri-lingual website — “Promote our Asian Pride! Jeju Island, Ha Long Bay!” — encourages users to vote for the two candidates and highlights the respective beauty of each. After voting, participants can print the confirmation e-mail that will allow them to get free entrance tickets to the main sites in Jeju Island and Halong Bay. Jeju is a volcanic island, 130 km off the southern coast of Korea.
Its central feature is Mount Hallasan, the tallest peak in South Korea and a dormant volcano, which rises 1,950 m above sea level. Halong Bay contains thousands of limestone islands of various sizes and shapes. Several of them are hollow, some with enormous caves, others with tiny enclosed lakes.
The Socialist Republic of Vietnam is represented in the New7Wonders of Nature by Halong Bay, which was recently the scene of an official visit by New7Wonders President Bernard Weber and Director Jean Paul De la Fuente. The delegation was welcomed by HE The Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism, Hoang Tuan Anh, in Hanoi, the capital of Vietnam, and the visit included a helicopter trip to Halong Bay, as well as ceremonies during an overnight cruise of the bay itself.

Visitors to the tourist magnet of Hoi An Town will have access to local relics at night from January 2, 2010 under a project of Hoi An municipal authorities to boost tourist arrivals to the ancient town.
Under the current regulation, tourists to the UNESCO-listed town are only allowed to explore the city’s Old Quarter and a number of cultural and historical relics during the day.
While visitors are restricted to certain relics like ancient houses and cultural venues as night falls.
During the night tours, travelers can choose the venues they want to go to, according to local authorities.
Entertainment activities and venues, including a food street, performances of traditional arts and crafts, and a floating food market on the Hoai River, will be held to spice up the nightlife in Hoi An.
Visitors can also take part in traditional folk games, shop at local night market, riding boats on the river and listen to folk music.
The night tickets are expected to cost VND40,000 (US$2.16) per person each Vietnamese and VND90,000 ($4.87) each foreigners.
Some 30 kilometers away from central coastal Danang City, the former harbor city of Hoi An was an important trading center of Vietnam during the 16th and 17th centuries.
The town is famed for its poetic and picturesque landscapes stemming from old houses and structures, diverse cultural influences, mostly from Chinese and Japanese traders who helped turned Hoi An into a commercial district in the 16th century.
It is said that the streets of Hoi An are in the most romantic time when locals at the ancient town switch off their lights and hang colored lanterns on their porches and windows on the 14th day of each lunar month.
In 1999, the old town was declared a World Heritage site by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization as a well-preserved example of a Southeast Asian trading port of the 15th to 19th centuries, with buildings that display a unique blend of local and foreign influences.
Ba Be Lake have a water area around 500ha, spreading over 8km, as biggest natural water lake in Vietnam, situated in Cho Ra-Ba Be-Cho Don carste terrain pertaining to low-lying lands of Vietnam North raising mass. This raising mass was formed from the destruction of South East Asia continental mass at the end of Cambri era, around 200 million years ago.
Due to its special geological constitution, the Lake has very original and special features compared with other world-wide carster lakes: world carster lakes are spent or only with one-season water, while Ba Be Lake has its permanent full-water.
The plateau is Vietnam ’s first pilot model of a geological park for the future and this will promote Vietnam ’s image around the world, said Chau. It will help eliminate hunger and reduce poverty for more than 250,000 local people on the plateau, he added.
Dong Van Stone Plateau was recognised as GGN member on October 3, 2010. The plateau has now become Vietnam ’s first geological park and only the second geological park in Southeast Asia, after the Langkawi Geological Park in Malaysia .
